“Other People’s Lives”
Sarah looks out her window, at the building across the wayShe sees people quietly existing, at the end of a long day.
Most of the rooms are dark, or behind their blinds they hideBut some are living wide open, letting Sarah take a peek inside. She wonders who they are, and what sort of lives they’ve ledAs they mill about, she tries to imagine whats in their heads.
What are or were their dreams? Are they experiencing a private hell? That old lady is always alone… at least as far as Sarah can tell. What was her childhood like?  Have they ever been in love…? She hopes the reality’s better, than anything she can conceive of.
The kitty cat catches her peeping, and peers right into her soulThen it yawns and stretches languidly, lazily eating from its bowlShe wonders if the man fought in the war, as he seems to be that ageSarah tries to delve into his memories, while he reads and turns the page.
So many different lives to imagine, and the thought haunts her to the boneEventually she stops watching other people, and goes back to living her own.
